The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced plans to introduce MnPASS lanes on Interstate 494 from eastbound France Avenue to Highway 77 and from westbound Highway 77 to Interstate 35 W.

It's part of a planned reconstruction of the freeway through Bloomington, Richfield, Eden Prairie and Edina.

According to a release, Corridors of Commerce, a state road improvement program, has awarded the project $134 million to introduce the MnPASS lanes. In addition, $70 million was awarded to construct a directional ramp from I-35 W North to I-494 West.

A release said the project's current stage entails looking at the freeway from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Highway 169 - determining the size of the project while conducting the environmental review process.

MnDOT is inviting members of the public to take an online survey, and to meet with MnDOT staff about the project from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Open Streets on 50th in Minneapolis and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Bloomington Farmers Market.
