Southbound Northstar trains were "significantly delayed" Monday morning due to a fatal Amtrak train crash involving a pedestrian in Coon Rapids.

According to Metro Transit and the Coon Rapids Police Department, the incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. near 85th Avenue and Norway Street.


Police said the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

The Coon Rapids Police Department advised those who take the Northstar Commuter Rail to find an alternate form of transportation. The department reported the railroad tracks were closed in the area.

Metro Transit officials said the incident did not involve the Northstar trains.
