A man was killed in a one-vehicle crash Sunday night in Wisconsin's Polk County.

A release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and State Highway 87 in Sterling Township around 9:05 p.m. Sunday.


There, the lone occupant of a pickup truck was found trapped in his vehicle, which was located in a swampy area off the roadway at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The man was unresponsive at the scene. Emergency workers removed him from the vehicle and began CPR. He was transported to the St. Croix Regional Medical Center, then airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The release states the sheriff's office was notified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner that he died around 11:05 p.m. Sunday. His name has not yet been released.

The matter remains under investigation.
