Drivers won't be able to miss all the construction barrels and concrete barriers in the north metro.

A new configuration is in place along Interstate 35E and Interstate 35 near the Forest Lake split. The northbound lanes are now separated by a concrete median barrier. Drivers exiting at Highway 97 in Columbus must use the right lane. I-35W northbound was reduced to one lane near the split earlier this week.

The work is part of a two-year resurfacing and bridge replacement project that is expected to wrap up this fall. Learn more about the project here.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is also in the process of adding a MnPASS lane to I-35W between Roseville and Blaine. The new lane will be open to traffic in 2021.

Overnight, a major traffic shift went into place along I-35W between Sunset Avenue in Lino Lakes and Highway 10 in Moundsview. The northbound lanes have been shifted to the right, while southbound traffic is using the northbound lanes. Learn more about the project here.

For those traveling near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this weekend, MnDOT says overhead sign work will bring lane and ramp closures to I-494 and Highway 5 early Sunday morning.

The right two lanes of I-494 eastbound will be closed between Portland Avenue and 12th Avenue from 4 to 8 a.m., while two westbound lanes will close between Pilot Knob Road and Highway 13 between 4 and 9 a.m. Sunday. The ramp from Pilot Knob Road to I-494 westbound will close during the same time.

Also watch for a lane closure on Highway 5 westbound near Highway 55 by the airport from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.
