Major Traffic Shift Starts This Week Along Interstate 35 in the North Metro

August 12, 2018 05:51 PM

Big changes start this week in an already busy work zone along Interstate 35 in Forest Lake and Columbus.

Currently, the interstate is reduced to two lanes on the northbound side between Highway 97 and Highway 8 as part of a resurfacing project. Starting Monday, drivers will encounter lane shifts and periodic off-peak lanes closures in both directions along I-35. The work will last a couple of days.

By 5 p.m. Tuesday, all northbound lanes will reopen. By 7 a.m. Wednesday, the southbound side will be reduced to two lanes from Highway 8 to Highway 97. That configuration will last for four months.

Once the shift is in place, the two southbound lanes will be separated by a concrete barrier. Motorists exiting at Broadway Avenue will need to stay in the right lane. Learn more about the project.
