Minnesota's road construction season officially begins this week
The Minnesota Department of Transportation unveiled its list of major projects throughout the state Thursday morning.
According to MnDOT, several projects are taking place in the Twin Cities metro area including:
The updated project information from MnDOT will help drivers decide whether to change their routes to work or even to their cabins.
Crews have already been working on a couple of those projects in the metro area.
Meanwhile, one project will affect highway traffic in the north metro for three years. MnDOT crews will be working on adding MnPASS express lanes on Interstate 35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes.
Crews will also repave the freeways and ramps, and well work on some bridge replacements, which is expected to be a long and noisy project for some residents.
"I'm just not too happy about it either because its already loud over there, too, with the trees cut down; there needs to be a wall or something built because I'm nervous about that road," Blaine resident Adam Burns said.
In the east metro, eastbound Interstate 94 near Woodbury at the I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange will be closed this weekend. That reconstruction project involves widening the bridges and rebuilding the ramps. Work is expected to wrap by fall 2020.
Additionally, MnDOT reports there are a number of construction projects that will affect northern, central and southern parts of the state.
In the northern part of the state, Highway 65, Highway 71, Highway 75, and Highway 371 will undergo changes.
In the central part of the state, crews will work on I-94 from Alexandria to Garfield as well as in Monticello and Albertville, Highway 10, Highway 15, Highway 55, Highway 59, Highway 79, and Highway 210.
In the southern part of the state, Highway 14 in Tracy; Highway 14/15's New Ulm Gateway, Interstate 90 in Albert Lea, Dakota and Fairmont; Highway 40's Milan bridge; Highway 60, Highway 61, Highway 63's Red Wing bridge will undergo road work.
