WATCH 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS for the latest traffic and weather updates.

An initially easy commute Wednesday in the metro area became more difficult with numerous crashes.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith advised drivers to be prepared for slowdowns on highways and interstates throughout the area.

Smith said a crash occurred on westbound Highway 62 near Penn Avenue, blocking the left lane.

Earlier, Smith said a crash on westbound Interstate 94 at the Hudson bridge blocked the majority of the road. She added traffic was able to sneak by on the right-hand shoulder.

That crash cleared around 8:15 a.m., however, Smith said delays in the area continued.

Meanwhile, Smith said a multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 494 past Pilot Knob Road caused delays.

A crash also partially blocked the left lane on westbound I-94 near White Bear Avenue.

Road restrictions in place along Highway 10 in Elk River backed up traffic as vehicles approached Joplin Street.
