Smith said reports indicated the semi was leaking about 3,500 gallons of ethanol. The Minnesota Department of Transportation later estimated 6,000 to 7,000 gallons of ethanol had spilled into a ditch near where the semi had tipped.
Smith added there was no indication the semi driver was injured.
Meanwhile, drivers might want to begin preparing for a handful of road closures set to take place in downtown Minneapolis.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Interstate 35W and Interstate 94 interchange will be affected.
