KSTP Traffic Round-Up: I-694 Closure, Multi-Vehicle I-35W Crash Cause AM Commute Issues

Monday morning commuters hit some snags as crews blocked off a stretch of Interstate 694 in Oakdale to resolve a sinkhole issue and as a result of several crashes.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed I-694 in both directions between 10th Street and 34th Street "until further notice" as crews worked to repair a sinkhole that formed after a large water main break Sunday.

MnDOT spokesman Kevin Gutknecht said drivers could access southbound I-694 via 10th Street and northbound I-694 at 34th/County Road 14/Old Highway 5.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said the ramp allowing drivers on eastbound I-694 to take eastbound Highway 36 was also closed Monday morning.

Meanwhile, Smith reported a multi-vehicle crash occurred on northbound Interstate 35W near 50th Street, which blocked two lanes. The crash cleared about an hour later.

Smith also said there was a stall blocking traffic on westbound Interstate 94 prior to Highway 280.

Additionally, there was a police presence on westbound I-694 near Edgerton in Little Canada just before 8 a.m.
