Another significant milestone for the 35W: Downtown to the Crosstown Project is slated for this weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will kick things off by closing I-35W from I-94 to Highway 62 in south Minneapolis this weekend.
There will be access on the southbound side between 46th Street and Highway 62, but the ramp from 46th Street to I-35W southbound will be closed for a portion of the weekend for a separate project. Drivers can use Diamond Lake Road instead.
The weekend detour takes motorists along I-94, I-394, Highway 100, and Highway 62.
Once the road opens early Monday, one lane of traffic will reopen into downtown Minneapolis along I-35W northbound at 11th Street and Grant Streets. Access to 5th Avenue remains closed through 2019.
Drivers traveling southbound on I-35W will begin using the newly constructed lanes from I-94 to 24th Street on Monday. The lane closure on I-94 westbound near downtown Minneapolis cleared out of the way earlier this week. The ramp from I-94 westbound to I-35W southbound reopens on Monday morning.
MnDOT says the 26th Street Bridge over I-35W is set to reopen Nov. 9. Learn more about the project here.
Meanwhile, in the north metro, you'll find a major ramp closure on Highway 10 westbound to Highway 65 in Blaine this weekend. Crews will be building an extra lane on the ramp. The work begins at 8 tonight and wraps up by 8 p.m. Saturday. Drivers can use Highway 47 during the closure. The right lane of Highway 10 westbound is shutting down as well from 93rd Lane to Highway 65 starting at 8 tonight until 3 p.m. Monday. Crews will be installing guardrail and building a curb.
