A portion of Interstate 35W will close in both directions in Minneapolis this weekend, April 26-29, officials say.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said the closure will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday between Interstate 94 and Highway 62. The project is to complete underground utility work across I-35W.
MnDOT says crews will start closing the on and off ramps for I-35W about an hour before closing the interstate. Motorists will be detoured around the closure using I-94, I-394, Highway 100 and Highway 62. Southbound I-35W will be open to traffic south of 46th Street.
MnDOT says I-35W will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, and crews will be working 24-hours a day during the closure. It's part of the bigger four-year reconstruction project that is scheduled to finish up in fall 2021.
