Highway 62 westbound is shutting down for the second weekend in a row.

The highway will close between Highway 169 and Interstate 494 in Eden Prairie starting at 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured to Highway 212 and Interstate 494.

The work is related to the larger Southwest Light Rail Transit Project, which will serve communities in Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie. Service begins in 2023 as an extension of the METRO Green Line.

The last few morning commutes along I-394 have been especially tough. There's utility work underway along Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis that's impacting traffic in the area. According to the city of Minneapolis, drivers exiting off Interstate 394 eastbound onto 12th Street cannot turn right on 12th Street and can only continue straight onto Hawthorne Avenue. From there, drivers can follow the detour to 10th Street.

The closure will be lifted by 6 a.m. Monday.
