Monday morning will bring much-needed relief to some drivers, while others are still in for a few more headaches.
On Friday night, the Minnesota Department of Transportation closed Interstate 35W between Interstate 94 and Highway 62 in south Minneapolis as part of the larger I-35W: Downtown to the Crosstown project. By the time the roadway reopens Monday morning, your drive into downtown Minneapolis will be much easier.
By 5 a.m., one lane of I-35W northbound will reopen at 11th and Grant streets. The exit to Fifth Avenue will remain closed through 2019. Crews will also reopen the ramp from I-94 westbound to I-35W southbound. Drivers traveling southbound on I-35W will begin using the newly constructed lanes from I-94 to 24th Street on Monday morning as well.
Meanwhile, in the north metro, a three-week project begins Monday on the on-and-off-ramps at I-94 eastbound and County Road 81 in Brooklyn Park. Although the ramps will stay open, there will be some restrictions while crews finish work on guardrails in the area.
A full closure of Highway 96 in the northeast metro begins on Monday. The roadway will shut down in both directions near South Twin Lake as crews replace an aging stormwater culvert. The detour takes drivers to Manning Avenue, 75th Street and Stonebridge Trail/Owens Street. Learn more about the project.
