Frigid weather creates slick roads in the metro

The deep freeze gripping the metro area is also contributing to slick roads Thursday.

Meteorologist Sam Ryan, filling in for KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith, said black ice was an issue for drivers.


Ryan said Interstate 94 between Highway 280 and downtown Minneapolis was a hotspot for crashes Thursday morning.

Additionally, Ryan said crashes delayed traffic briefly along eastbound Highway 10 near Foley Blvd and westbound I-94 near westbound Interstate 394.

Meanwhile, Metro Transit reported the southbound Northstar Trip 5 from Big Lake, scheduled for 7:18 a.m., was operating 10 minutes late due to the cold weather.
