One person died as the result of a car crash in Elk Township Monday evening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2001 Cadillac DeVille was traveling south on Highway 59 when its driver veered toward the right shoulder, overcorrected, crossed into the highway's northbound lane, went into a ditch and struck a utility pole.

According to the state patrol, 27-year-old Daniel Henry McClellan and a 3-year-old girl from Westbrook were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

McClellan, identified as the driver, died as a result of the crash. The 3-year-old girl was uninjured, the state patrol reported.

Authorities said the highway was dry and both were wearing their seatbelts. They have not yet released any information as to what might have caused the crash.
