Drivers will face detours, traffic delays in the east and west metro this weekend

June 07, 2019 05:53 AM

Drivers around the metro are facing another construction-filled weekend.

Signs have been up all week on the east side alerting motorists to the upcoming weekend closure of Interstate 94 in St. Paul. The westbound lanes are scheduled to shut down between I-35E and Highway 280 the next two weekends as part of a larger resurfacing project. The closure goes into place beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Monday. Ramps will shut down at 9 p.m.Thursday. Traffic will be detoured along I-35E, Highway 36 and Highway 280.

Drivers along Highway 36 will find a closure between Century Avenue in Oakdale and I-694 in Pine Springs this weekend. The eastbound side will close starting at 10 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured to Highway 61 and I-694. Safety improvements are underway at the Hadley Avenue intersection. The stoplights there will be removed once the project is complete.

Meanwhile, a ramp closure in the southeast metro will add some time onto your drive. MnDOT says the ramp from I-494 westbound to Highway 149/Dodd Road in Mendota Heights will shut down beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Monday. You can follow the posted detour to Pilot Knob Road.

MnDOT says the roadway will be open, but there will be lane restrictions from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, traffic will be shut down along I-35W southbound from I-94 to Highway 62 overnight Sunday. The closure begins at 10 p.m. and will clear by 5 a.m. on Monday. A new ramp closure begins along I-35W Monday morning too. The southbound ramp to 46th Street closes for about one month.
