Drivers traveling up north will encounter new ramp closures on I-35, added congestion on Hwy 371

If you're heading north of the metro for the weekend, there's a couple of things to watch for on the roadways.

A traffic shift and new ramp closures are in place along Interstate 35 in the Forest Lake and Columbus area. Overnight, crews shifted northbound traffic to the inside lanes between the split and Highway 97. The ramps along I-35 northbound to and from Highway 97 are closed until the end of September. Drivers can use Broadway Avenue/County Road 2 instead.

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 visitors are expected in the Brainerd Lakes area this weekend. Drivers should be prepared for added congestion on Highway 371 and other popular area routes as the 38th annual Lucas Oil National Hot Rod Association Nationals race at Brainerd International Raceway is underway. The event kicked off on Thursday and continues into Sunday.

Also, a reminder that Highway 210 is still closed for construction between Brainerd and Ironton. The detour takes motorists to Highway 25, Highway 18, and Highway 6. The roadway should reopen sometime in November.
