Driver crashes into patrol vehicles during traffic stop for suspected drunk driver in St. Paul, both in custody

A White Bear Lake woman and a Brooklyn Park man were taken into custody after a crash involving two Minnesota State Patrol vehicles early Thursday morning.

The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 94 between the exits for Dale Street and Lexington Avenue in St. Paul.

According to the incident report, state patrol troopers were pursuing a vehicle that was reportedly weaving along westbound I-94. As the troopers conducted a traffic stop and were investigating, an SUV reportedly crashed into the two state patrol vehicles at the scene.

The incident report states the emergency lights were activated at the time of the collision.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 20-year-old Aliyah Ramos, showed signs of alcohol impairment, according to the state patrol, and was taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the initial traffic stop, identified as 32-year-old Paul Heim, was in the back seat of one of the patrol vehicles at the time of the crash. Heim was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment for minor injuries and was then booked into Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and DWI.

The incident remains under investigation.
