A 34-year-old man has been charged in connection to a crash in Chippewa County that occurred in August and resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman.

A criminal complaint filed in Chippewa County states Braxton Monte Anderson faces two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, two counts of criminal vehicular operation and one count of fourth-degree driving under the influence.

According to the complaint, authorities were called just after 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 7 on a report of a crash that occurred in Watson.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a gold SUV and a green car that both suffered heavy damage.

The complaint says a Lac Qui Parle Sheriff's Office deputy said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car that was involved.

Authorities were able to identify Anderson as the driver of the vehicle. Anderson was then transported to an area hospital.

Responders were then able to extract the passenger — identified as Brittany Lynn Schulz — from the vehicle. Schulz was later pronounced dead.

The complaint says authorities located drug paraphernalia inside the car Anderson and Schulz were extracted from.

The state patrol's investigation found the vehicle driven by Anderson was traveling south on Highway 59 in Watson when it made a left turn in front of the SUV, causing the SUV to collide with the car.

According to the complaint, test results of Anderson's blood were positive for controlled substances.
