A road in Cottage Grove was closed as authorities investigated a serious crash this morning.

The city of Cottage Grove reported Monday morning that the Minnesota State Patrol was investigating the crash, which happened on Manning Avenue.


As the state patrol investigated, Manning Avenue, between 70th and 77th streets was closed for several hours, city officials said.

A State Patrol crash report said a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander was headed south on Highway 95 when it crossed the center line. A northbound 2006 International truck swerved right to avoid a collision, but the Mitsubishi sideswiped the truck and proceeded to collide head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado, which was pulling a trailer and driving behind the International truck.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was identified as 41-year-old Melinda Maye Stevenson of Blaine. She suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. 

Michael John Friedrich, age 31, of Hastings was identified as the driver of the Chevy and 53-year-old Steven Foote also of Hastings was identified as the driver of the International truck. Neither received injures in the crash.
