40 vehicles involved in Eau Claire crash, 7 injuries reported

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says 40 vehicles are involved in a crash that happened in Eau Claire, Wisconsin Sunday afternoon. 

According to a release,  the crash happened on Interstate 94 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 85 around 3:17 p.m.

The crash involved seven injuries, including one with injuries considered to be life-threatening. Of the 40 vehicles involved in the crash, 33 automobiles and seven semi-trucks were among the wreckage. 

All traffic was rerouted from the area as responding agencies attempted to clear the area. Interstate 94 eastbound traffic was rerouted at mile marker 81 eastbound Foster exit to Highway 53. Interstate 94 westbound traffic was rerouted at mile marker 88 westbound Osseo to Highway 53. Motorists were asked to avoid the area. 

Crews are working in investigating the crashes, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. As of 5:30 p.m., traffic is open and flowing in the area.
