Two men are dead after a fatal crash involving a semi Friday night in Apple Valley.

Apple Valley Police Capt. Greg Dahlstrom issued a news release out on Saturday that stated at 9:03 p.m., several 911 callers reported a vehicle struck a semi in the southbound lane of Pilot Knob Road, south of County Road 42.

First responders arrived on scene and found a small sedan in the center median and a tractor-trailer further south. The semi was reportedly blocking both lanes of traffic.

A preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the sedan was traveling northbound on Pilot Knob Road, lost control and crossed into the southbound lane.

The damage to both vehicles were severe. Two adult males were ejected from the sedan and were deceased. Police on Monday identified them as 24-year-old Brandon Pietsch and 23-year-old Leroy Olson, both of Farmington.

The driver of the semi, identified as Carl Hamilton, of Lacona, Iowa, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
