A teenage girl was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 12 Saturday morning.

According to Sgt. Rick Denneson and the West Hennepin Public Safety Department, the crash happened Saturday morning on Highway 12, near the intersection of Lake Haughey Road in the city of Independence.

Upon arrival to the scene, authorities found a crash involving a semi-truck and passenger vehicle. The semi-truck was traveling westbound on Highway 12, driven by 50-year-old Jesse Eugene Chase, of Princeton.

The other vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Marleena Anna Dieterich, from Delano, was traveling eastbound on Highway 12 when she lost control on the icy roads and crossed over the centerline into the westbound lane, colliding with the semi-truck. She died at the scene as a result of the crash.

Chase, who was injured in the crash, told police he saw the car coming into his lane. He says he attempted to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid the crash. Witnesses at the scene told authorities they saw the passenger car lose control and slide into the path of the oncoming semi-truck.

The State Patrol is assisting the West Hennepin Public Safety Department with the reconstruction of the crash.
