UPDATE: Friends, Family Remember Barber Hit and Killed in St. Paul Crash

St. Paul police say one person has died after a domestic incident involving a machete and a nearby crash late Friday night.

Police were called to a domestic situation on the 800 block of Blair Avenue just before midnight after a woman reported her boyfriend was trying to stab her teenage son with a machete, then fled the scene in a white van with the machete.

Police report the driver was driving at high speeds through alleys and nearly hit an officer responding to the scene.

The suspect did not stop when police lights were activated, and authorities say they heard a crash. They found the van had crashed in a garage at the 800 block of Sherburne Avenue, then the suspect fled on foot. He was caught and arrested.

The garage collapsed from the impact.

Officers found a man in the car the suspect hit, and he was taken to Regions Hospital where he later died.

The suspect is also being treated at Regions, according to police, and suffered a cracked sternum and broken clavicle.

The incident remains under investigation.
