Wild trades Niederreiter to Carolina, receive Victor Rask

The Minnesota Wild traded forward Nino Niederreiter to the Carolina Hurricanes for center Victor Rask on Thursday.

Niederreiter, 26, has spent the last six years with the Wild after being acquired in a trade with the New York Islanders. Niederreiter has scored nine goals in 46 games this season. He has 231 career points in 498 games between the Wild and Islanders.

Niederreiter's most memorable goal for the Wild was when he scored in overtime in game seven of their 2014 playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche.

Rask, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 200 pound center from Sweden. He has 163 points in 339 career NHL games after being selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Hurricanes.

Minnesota hosts the Anaheim Ducks Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center.
