Updated: February 24, 2020 03:51 PM

Wild general manager Bill Guerin met with reporters on Monday afternoon, following the passing of the NHL Trade Deadline. Guerin came close to trading forward Zach Parise to the Islanders, a source confirmed to KSTP Sports. But in the end, it was a complicated trade to pull off with so many financial implications in play.

Parise is in the eighth year of his 13-year contract with the Wild and is making $9 million this season.

Veteran forward Andrew Ladd, who has only appeared in two games this season, was to be included in the deal by the Islanders, per multiple reports. Ladd, 34, has three years remaining on his contract at a cap hit of $5.5 million.

Parise and Ladd both have no-trade clauses included in their contracts, but both players reportedly were willing to waive those clauses.

Parise declined comment on the trade chatter after practice on Monday.
