When Philadelphia beat Oakland Monday night, the Eagles locked up the top-seed in the NFC playoff race.

While the Vikings haven't clinched their seeding yet, there is only one unlikely scenario that would drop them out of the #2-seed.

The Vikings easy path is to simply beat the Bears at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. Minnesota is currently listed as a 12-point favorite over Chicago.

Even if the Vikings lose, three other Week 17 underdogs - in addition to the Bears - would have to win games:

  • Carolina must win at Atlanta
  • Tampa Bay must beat New Orleans
  • ...and San Francisco must win at the L.A. Rams

In that exact scenario, the Panthers would leapfrog the Vikings for the 2nd-seed, with Minnesota settling for the 3rd slot.

There are other far-less likely scenarios involving tie games in the Saints' and Rams' games.

Put simply: if any of Minnesota, Atlanta, New Orleans or the L.A. Rams win, the Vikings clinch the 2-seed.

Finishing as the #2-seed would give the Vikings a bye in the first week of the playoffs and assure them home field against any opponent except Philadelphia throughout the postseason.
