Vikings draft TE Irv Smith Jr. in 2nd Round; RB Alexander Mattison in 3rd

The Minnesota Vikings took Alabama tight end Irv Smith Jr. in second round of 2019 NFL Draft.

Smith Jr. is 6'2", 242 pounds and left Alabama after his junior year. His father, Irv Smith Sr., was drafted in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

Smith Jr. ran a 4.63 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine. He caught 44 passes for 710 yards and scored seven touchdowns in the 2018 season for the Crimson Tide.

The Vikings traded down four times before taking Boise State running back Alexander Mattison with the final pick in third round.

Minnesota now owns nine picks in rounds four through seven on Saturday.
