Board of Regents approves Fleck's contract extension

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved the seven-year contract extension that was offered to Gophers coach P.J. Fleck at its meeting Thursday.

Fleck and the university reached terms on the extension last week.


With the contract approved, Fleck's salary rises $1 million to $4.6 million annually with an additional pool of just over $1 million for assistants and other staff members.

Fleck's buyout is $10 million in the first year and decreases thereafter.

The university's buyout is 65 percent of his remaining salary at the time of termination.

Fleck is in his third year as Minnesota's head coach.
