Apple Valley-grad and now-former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Tyus Jones offered a farewell message to the team - and state - he's departing.

Jones signed a 3-year, $28-million offer with the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.  The Timberwolves had 48 hours to match the offer, but released a statement just as the window closed saying they were letting Jones go to Memphis.

It ends Jones' four-year tenure with the Wolves that began when the team made moves the night of the 2014 NBA Draft to acquire him.

Once the deal was complete, Jones flew to Las Vegas to meet the Grizzlies contingent that is there for the NBA Summer League.

Shortly after arriving in Vegas, Jones released his farewell statement of thanks.

KSTP Sports' Darren Wolfson obtained the statement via Jones' agent.

It reads:

"To all the fans and supporters of the Minnesota Timberwolves, my teammates, coaches, staff and especially Glen Taylor - I want to thank you all for the support and dedication you have shown me and my family since I turned pro.

I'm especially thankful to the late Flip Saunders for allowing me to be able to play in my home state.

The last four years have been such a blessing having the opportunity to play where I grew up. For that, I am extremely grateful.

Minnesota will always be home - that will never change.

Now I get to take that next step in my journey and career and I'm excited for what's ahead.
