Twins, Tigers to play Spring Training game in Dominican Republic

The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers will play a Spring Training game in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday,

The game, which will be played at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal on March 7, will be the first MLB game to be played in the Dominican Republic since 2000 Spring Training when the Boston Red Sox played the Houston Astros.

Twins acquire pitcher Kenta Maeda as part of three-team trade

MLB said Detroit will be considered the home team in the game. The Tigers haven’t played an international game since 1980. The Twins last played internationally in the 2018 Puerto Rico Series against the Cleveland Indians.

"The Minnesota Twins are honored to join the Detroit Tigers in making the trip to the Dominican Republic as part of Major League Baseball’s international play plan," Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter said. "Our franchise is excited to have this opportunity to help celebrate the Dominican Republic’s love affair with our game and incredible impact on MLB."

Tickets for the game will go on sale Monday.
