The Minnesota Twins announced they have signed infielders Ronald Torreyes and Jonathan Schoop to one-year contracts for 2019.
According to a release sent out by the organization, Torreyes, 26, played 41 games with the New York Yankees last season. He hit .280 (28-for-100) with seven doubles, one triple, seven RBI, nine runs scored and a .294 on-base percentage. In addition to his time with Yankees, Torreyes also played 26 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and four games with Single-A Tampa.
The Libertador, Venezuela native has played parts of four seasons in the majors with the Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, hitting a career .281 batting line (162-for-576) with 30 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 56 RBI in 229 career games.
The Twins are also finalizing a one-year deal with Schoop, The Athletic sources confirmed to KSTP Sports. The deal is set for $7.5 million.
Schoop hit .233 with 21 home runs in 131 games for the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers in 2018. He was non-tendered by the Brewers last Friday.
