Top seeded Edina edged Moorhead, 4-2, in their Class AA quarterfinal game on Thursday at Xcel Energy Center. The Hornets were leading 3-2 late in the third period and solidified that lead when senior forward Kevin Delaney scored an empty net goal with 29 seconds in regulation remaining.

The Hornets spread out their attack with seven different players factoring into the scoring including three with multiple points. Edina’s senior forwards Jett Jungels, Liam Malmquist and Delaney each had one goal and on assist, giving them 28, 24 and 17 goals for the season respectively. Teammate senior forward Mason Nevers also had a goal in the game, giving him 18 for the year.

Edina sophomore goalie Louden Hogg recorded 19 saves in the victory while junior goalie Hudson Hodges made 32 saves for the Spuds.

The No. 1 Hornets advance to semifinal action in hopes of improving upon their 2018 third-place finish. They will face the winner of the #5Duluth East/#4 St. Thomas Academy quarterfinal matchup on Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center. Moorhead will play the loser of that matchup on Friday at noon in the consolation semifinals at 3M Arena at Mariucci on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
