Tartan Football Cruises Past St. Paul Central in Section Semifinals

The Tartan Titans high school football team defeated the St. Paul Central Minutemen 55-0 Saturday afternoon to advance to the section championship game.



The Titans came out of the gates hot. On the game's first play from scrimmage, sophomore wide receiver Dorian Singer threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Antwan Kimmons to put Tartan up 6-0. 

Following a Central punt, senior quarterback Solomon Whalen connected with Singer for a 9-yard touchdown. The Titans added a two-point conversion to go up 14-0 with 5:58 left in the first.

On Central's ensuing possession, Tartan senior defensive back Josh Kaemmer returned an interception 52-yards for a touchdown to put Tartan 21-0 with 3:04 left in the first. On Central's next possession, senior quarterback Trenton Funches fumbled, which Tartan recovered. 

The Titans took advantage of the turnover when Singer scored on a 48-yard touchdown catch to extend the lead to 27-0 with 1:01 left in the first. 

Tartan added two more touchdown before the half to lead 42-0 at the break. The Titans would eventually win 55-0. They next play Mahtomedi in the section 4AAAAA championship on Friday, November 2 at 7 pm at Mahtomedi High School.
