Stillwater Reaches State Softball Championship Game

Stillwater Area (15-13) continues its run at the 2018 MSHSL Class AAAA Softball Tournament, topping its second-straight seeded opponent with a 14-4 win over No. 3 Buffalo (20-3) on Thursday afternoon at Caswell Park.

The Ponies advance to the state championship game on Friday at 1 p.m. and will play No. 1 seed Park, Cottage Grove.


Buffalo heads to the third place game, where they'll face the losing team from the opposite semifinal at 11 a.m.

The Ponies scored a pair of runs in the first and after a scoreless second inning, scored multiple runs in each of the final three frames capped by a seven run fifth inning for the 10-run rule win in five innings.

Allison Benning secured the complete game win, allowing four runs (three earned) on just four hits with four strikeouts.

Once again, she helped her case at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Tatiana Tabucol led the Ponies offensively by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and five RBIs. 

Buffalo powered up at the top of the lineup as leadoff hitter Katie Carlson and second hitter Jordan Zrust each homered. Zrust also pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
