June 14, 2018 09:48 PM

Benjamin Borrman singled in the winning run in the last of the 7th inning to lift Stillwater to a 3-2 win over Mounds View in a Class AAAA quarterfinal game at CHS Field.

The Ponies, (22-3) winners of 18 straight games will face the winner of the Wayzata-Blaine game at CHS on Friday, June 15 at 2:30 p.m.

It was a tight pitching duel all the way. The Ponies scored a run without a hit in the first inning. The Mustangs grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning on Carter Traczyk's two RBI double.

The Ponies tied it in the bottom of the inning when Andrew Gilbert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run.

It stayed that way until the 7th. Mason Schwerzler led off with a walk and was bunted to second by Matthew McGinley.

Borman, a junior, then pinch hit for Matthew Novak and singled to center to score Schwerzler with the deciding run.
Cody Vanske, who earned the final out in the top of the 7th in relief of Gilbert, earned the win.

Mounds View's Josh Bonde gave up just three hits but ended up with the loss. The Mustangs will play the loser of the Wayzata-Blaine game at Hopkins High School on June 15 at 12:30 p.m.
