Ryan O'Neill scored a pair of goals including the game-winner with 7:14 left in the game to give St Thomas Academy a 3-1 win over Duluth East in the Boys State Hockey Class AA Quarterfinals.

It's the Cadets first win in a Class AA Quarterfinal in four tries since they elected to move up from Class A.

O'Neill gave the 4-seed Cadets the lead with his first goal 8:23 into the game.

Duluth East's Charlie Erickson tied it up with 4:15 left in the second period.

O'Neill's winner came from point-blank range in the slot, as he took Nico Vega's feed from below the goal line and rocketed it in off the shoulder of Duluth East goalie Brody Rabold.

McClain Beaudette hit a lengthy empty-netter to seal the win in the closing minutes.

Cadets' senior goalie Muzzy Donohue stopped 28 shots in the victory.

St Thomas Academy advances to the Class AA Semifinals where they will face #1-seed Edina at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night.

Duluth East drops to the consolation bracket.
