Winning is sweet.
For Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, the Vikings' dramatic 29-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Sunday's NFC Divisional round matchup is even sweeter.
Made a cake and ice cream bet with @senjohnkennedy on this weekend's @Vikings-@Saints game… WHEN the Vikings win, he'll send a Louisiana King Cake our way. Will send him some purple ice cream as a consolation prize. #BringItHome https://t.co/nQNjxGWrp9— Amy Klobuchar (@amyklobuchar) January 13, 2018
That's because, under the terms of a bet she agreed to with Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana, Klobuchar will receive an authentic Louisiana King Cake, a Mardi Gras staple.
I have no doubts the @Saints will beat the @Vikings this Sunday. I'm so confident that we'll win, I bet @amyklobuchar a king cake. I’m going to make good on the bet regardless of the game’s outcome. At least having a king cake will make it easier to stomach a loss this weekend. pic.twitter.com/nevxXvrtfH— John Kennedy (@SenJohnKennedy) January 11, 2018
Had the Vikings lost, Klobuchar had Purple Power ice cream for her Senate colleague. St. Paul-based Kemp's created the ice cream for the occasion. The purple-colored ice cream is vanilla-flavored with chocolate footballs.
She had said on Twitter she planned to deliver the ice cream anyway, as a consolation prize.
Klobuchar has a long-standing connection to the Vikings.
Her father - longtime Minneapolis newspaperman Jim Klobuchar - covered the team and co-wrote a book with legendary former Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton, as well as writing a number of other books about the franchise.
