Gophers Commit Sara Scalia Thrilled to Have Lindsay Whalen as Future Coach

May 08, 2018 11:26 PM

Sara Scalia is the first recruit to commit to play for the Gophers new women's basketball coach, Lindsay Whalen. Scalia is a sharp-shooting guard for Stillwater High School, who averaged 26 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game in her junior season.

Whalen replaced Marlene Stollings, who took the head coaching job at Texas Tech.

Whalen will be performing double duty, playing for the Lynx this summer, along with taking over the coaching duties for the University of Minnesota.

Scalia is no stranger to Whalen's game. Her family has Lynx season tickets and she's been watching Whalen since she can remember.

"I love everything that Lindsay Whalen stands for. She's a great player, she's a great coach and she's a great role model. I can't wait to get to Minnesota and get my career started," Sara Scalia told KSTP Sports.
