Wild's Suter excited to represent USA at World Championship

May 02, 2019 08:37 PM

For the 14th time, Wild defenseman Ryan Suter will represent the U.S. on an international stage. This time it's the 2019 World Championship in Slovakia.

Suter, 34, said this very well could be the last time he plays for the U.S. -- typically the Wild are in the postseason and committing to the world championship is tough to do. Suter also said that management preferred that he stay home and rest, but because this could be his last time wearing the Red, White, and Blue, he convinced them to let him go.

Team USA, which also features Chicago's Patrick Kane and other NHL stars, will open play against tournament host Slovakia on May 10. Team USA won the bronze medal in last year's world championship.
