Rookie Kicker Carlson Eager to Prove Himself

May 06, 2018 02:11 PM

Kickers who stand 6-foot 5-inches tall with a big leg are rare in the NFL, that's why the Minnesota Vikings moved up in the draft to select Daniel Carlson of Auburn in the fifth round.

Carlson realizes it's a tricky situation with veteran kicker Kai Forbath already on the roster, but the Vikings want some competition during the summer.

Admittedly, Carlson needs to work on his consistency inside of 50-yards, but he doesn't shy away from the pressure of big kicks.

"As a kicker, that's what makes it special," Carlson said during the Vikings rookie camp in Eagan. "Not everybody wants to be the one who handles those high pressure situations, but as a kicker, you have to perform at your best in those moments."

Carlson connected on 92 of his 114 field goal attempts at Auburn with a career-high of 56-yards.
