Fans prepare for NCAA championship game

A college basketball national champion will be named Monday night in Minneapolis.

Virginia and Texas Tech will square off after their respective wins Saturday.

The two teams will play at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Neither program has ever been this close to a national title, making it a rare matchup of first-timers to the final game of the college basketball season.

The last time both teams in the championship game had never been there before was 40 years ago, when Magic Johnson and Michigan State played Larry Bird and Indiana State.

A first-time champion will be crowned for the first time since 2006.

Meanwhile, fans can participate in pre-game events, including pep rallies along Nicollet Mall and the Fan Fest at the Minneapolis Convention center.

The game begins at 8:20 p.m.
