The Twins have been eliminated from the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes, a source tells KSTP's Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson.

Ohtani, 23, is considered the Babe Ruth of Japan. He dominates pitching and hitting, and is making the jump to the major leagues this winter. The Twins, among many teams wanted him badly.

But a source with direct knowledge said that Ohtani informed the Twins' front office on Sunday afternoon that he won't be coming to Minnesota.

The Twins considered Ohtani a plan "A", a source said. But have plenty of alternative options to fill a need in their starting rotation.
