Mahtomedi blanks Totino-Grace to earn 3rd-straight State Hockey appearance

Mahtomedi steamrolled their way to a 5-0 win over Section 4A's top-seed Totino-Grace earning a third-consecutive trip to the State Boys Hockey Tournament.

Nikolai Dulak scored ten minutes in and Adam Johnson added another in the final minute of the first period sending Mahtomedi to the first break with a 2-0 lead.

J.D. Metz bumped the lead to 3-0 in the second before Kory Pilarski and Colin Hagstrom put the game away with two more goals late in the third.

Ben Dardis was perfect in goal for Mahtomedi, making 22 saves in the shutout win.

The victory gives the Zephyrs their eleventh State Tournament appearance. They are seeking their first appearance in a State Championship game.

They'll open play in the Class A Quarterfinals on Wednesday.  Seedings will be announced Saturday morning.
