Lynx to Commemorate 2017 WNBA Championship Through Community Service in D.C.

The Minnesota Lynx will team up with a nonprofit to commemorate the team's 2017 WNBA championship and promote a healthy lifestyle. 


On Wednesday, the team will host a service event with Samaritan's Feet Shoes of Hope Distribution at Payne Elementary School in Washington D.C., according to a release from the team. 

The event comes after the team did not receive an invitation to the White House to celebrate its title.

Samaritan's Feet Shoes of Hope Distribution is a nonprofit that provides shoes "as the foundation to a healthy life, resulting in the advancement of education and economic opportunities." 

While at Payne Elementary School, the team will distribute new shoes and socks to all 340 students.

According to the release from the team, 30 percent of the students that attend Payne Elementary School are homeless and all students fall under low-income status.
