Lakeville North prepares to defend Class 6A Prep Bowl championship

Updated: August 12, 2019 10:46 PM

Last year, the Lakeville North High School football team won their first Prep Bowl championship since Lakeville split into two schools.

They beat perennial powerhouse Eden Prairie twice, including a 28-21 win in the Prep Bowl.

"You fight so hard to get to the top and the challenge is staying," Panthers head coach Brian Vossen said on their first day of practice on Monday. "I don't like the underdog role. I very much like being the team that others are going after."

Lakeville North begins the season as the team to beat, but they'll do with only two offensive starters back from last season and a completely revamped offensive line.

"I feel like the team is ready," Panthers defensive lineman Landon Carter said. "Last year we were a lot bigger and faster, but this year the mentality is still there."

"This year's a whole new year. Obviously we have a target on our back, so we have to defend what we have," Panther running back Raja Nelson added.

Lakeville North opens the season at Woodbury on Thursday, August 29.
