David Backes on year with Bruins, upcoming charity event for animals

Former Spring Lake Park high school and Minnesota-State Mankato star, and current 13-year NHL veteran David Backes of the Boston Bruins talked with KSTP's Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson.

David and his wife Kelly are hosting the second annual Athletes for Animals Meritage Wine Tasting event at Leopold's Mississippi Gardens on Sunday, August 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets remain. For more information, click here.

100 percent of the funds raised will be made available to animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Among the NHL players, in addition to Backes, who will be there: Zach Parise and Jason Zucker of the Wild, Ryan McDonagh of the Lightning, and Nick Bjugstad of the Penguins.

Backes talked to Wolfson about his passion for animals, his trying season in Boston, what he's been working on this summer to improve as a player, and much more.
