Gophers Road Trip Begins in Cannon Falls

May 07, 2018 07:08 PM

Instead of Iowa City or Madison, the Gophers took their show on the road to Cannon Falls on Monday.

"This is terrific," Gophers football head coach P.J. Fleck said when their bus arrived in Cannon Falls. "Especially on this beautiful spring day. This is what the Gophers Road Trip is all about."

New Gophers men's hockey coach Bob Motzko went from the toast of the town when he was hired on March 30th to being slightly overshadowed when the Gophers hired a new women's basketball coach.

"I was a pretty big deal until Mark Coyle hired Lindsay Whalen," Motzko joked with the crowd.

Men's basketball coach Richard Pitino broke some news by announcing the hiring of new assistant coach Kyle Lindsted who was on the Wichita State staff the last three years.

"We're excited about him," Pitino said. "I've known him for awhile. He's one of the best recruiters in the country."
