Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck has announced that defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a foot injury in the first quarter of their game at Maryland on Saturday.

The Gophers will file a waiver in effort to get Winfield Jr. an extra year of eligibility. If granted,Winfield would have threes years of eligibility remaining at the University of Minnesota.

Winfield will have foot surgery on Monday.
