First period flurry gives Edina AA Hockey Semifinal win over St Thomas Academy

Brett Chorske, Liam Malmquist and Jett Jungels scored three goals in a span of 4:55 late in the first period to stake Edina out to a lead they'd never surrender in a 6-3 win over St Thomas Academy in the Class AA State Boys Hockey Semifinal.

Edina's first period flurry had them up 3-0 before Luke Herzog got the Cadets on the board 72 seconds into the second period.

Jungels' second sent Edina to the second intermission with as 4-1 lead.

The teams alternated goals in the third period as Rob Christy and Carter Henry scored for STA.

But Malmquist followed Christy and Henry's tallies to complete his hat trick, sending Edina to the Class AA State Championship game.

The Hornets will play Eden Prairie in the title game at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
